The Improvement of Liquefiable Ground of High-grade Highway 

and Anti-earthquakeTreatment for Bridge Foundation.

 

     

 

      The above project was authorized by Transport Bureau of Jiangsu Province in 1997. The project was accomplished In October of 1999, and the research results were highly appraised by the national famous exert commission in geotechnical engineering.

This project was mainly focused on the practical methods to judge the soil earthquake response and liquefaction, the techniques of dynamic compaction and dry-vibrated gravel pile to improve the liquefied ground, and the anti-earthquake principle for the bridge foundation etc. Moreover, a new method called SASW was introduced to evaluate the improvement effectiveness of the liquefied ground. The relationship of the shear wave velocity measured from SASW and the SPT number was also established for judgment of the liquefaction. The technical process to control the treatment quality of liquefied subgrade under a high-grade highway was also suggested.

The research results of the project were awarded with the second-class prize of Science and Technology Progress. The direct economic effect produced by this project was 70 million RMB. The results obtained in this project have been applied in the practical construction of other expressways in Jiangsu Province.
