Introduction  

Institute of Geotechnical Engineering of Southeast University(IGESEU) is one of the earliest research groups engaged in geotechnical engineering in China. It was founded in 1954, began to enroll master degree students in 1981 and Ph.D students in 2000, The institute offers a M.S. and Ph.D degree now. The total number of teaching faculty is 32, including 4 professors and 14 associate professors. Fourteen of them hold a Ph.D and master degree. The institute has formed it’s distinct research field with the development of national infrastuctures and made a great achievement in pile dynamics, special ground improvement of expressway, geoenvironmental Geotechnology, and surveying of underground structure field etc. Nine projects have been awarded provincial and ministry science and technology progress awards.

The institute are undertaking research projects on expressway, subway, pile foundations of huge bridges, and underground engineering . Annual research funds amounts to more than 8 million . More than 60 academic papers are published every year.
　   Institute of Geotechnical Engineering in Southeast University  has been doing many efforts on international exchange and cooperation. We have established good cooperation relationships with Ghent University in Belgium, Saga University in Japan and American PDA Co. Ltd. etc. We will strength further cooperation including exchange of graduates, faculty members and sharing scientific results for each other. Meanwhile we actively develop international cooperation with famous American University of Michigan, Japan national research Institute. We encourage young faculty members to study or doing research abroad and participate international academic conferences to strength their international communication abilities.
